Second edition of “Traversing Glass”

After a hiatus , I am returning to my publication ‘Traversing Glass’ to work on a second edition. I am looking to improve the binding as well as the glass encasing. I am kindly assisted by An Onghena from the printing lab of the Jan van Eyck academy.

“Beweeg mee met de stroming. Sta stil als de boom. Laat je meenemen door de wind. De MaasWacht is een kans om een heel persoonlijke verbinding te maken met de rivier. Je bent uitgenodigd om simpelweg bij en met de Maas te zijn. Niets meer, niets minder. Alleen maar bij de Maas zijn.“ SoAP

I am looking forward to spending a few days together with the Maas.  I am taking this time to reflect, return back into slowness and see how the flow of the Maas can inspire my current practices.

Finissage  SO DI NON SAPERE and Reading from the “Encyclopedia of the Uncertain“

I am excited to invite you to the finissage of SO DI NON SAPERE, an exhibition that questions the limits of our knowledge, on Saturday the 15th of June from 4pm onwards at De Meldkamer (Capucijnenstraat 21, 6211 RN Maastricht).

In the context of the finissage one of the featured artists, Anna Püschel is reading from her publication “Encyclopedia of the Uncertain - a meditaion on doubt”.

“Fascinated by awareness and ignorance, Anna Püschel (DE/FR) began collecting definitions of words related to knowledge from a broad range of sources, from medieval texts to modern dictionaries. These definitions – some objectively true, others with questionable veracity – are brought together in the Encyclopedia of the Uncertain, a work that redefines referencing, and boldly juxtaposes French poetry to conspiracy theories, recipes, and political essays. But regardless of their origin, the definitions show that we have always yearned for the truth.”

Vernissage SO DI NON SAPERE

I am happy to invite you to the opening of SO DI NON SAPERE, Saturday 18/5 from 4:00 pm at De Meldkamer.

In an information-saturated society - where knowledge comes from different mediums, resources, disciplines, fields and perspectives - are we still able to question the limits of what we know?

In the Western world, most school books and academic texts are written by (and also for) White men. But how can we extend our knowledge? Can we look for other sources of wisdom? Where can we search for answers? At what point can we confidently say that we know something? What can we learn from others, humans and non-humans? We should all get lost and unsettled, unlearn to understand, shuffle and regain knowledge again and again. We should broaden our horizons, break down our knowledge, trust different feelings that our body has, and engage in conversations and observations with others—human and nonhuman entities—to finally learn.

The exhibition “I know that I know nothing” presents an invitation to get lost, question your knowledge and embrace new ways of learning from others, valuing the knowledge you bring to your own surroundings, acquired through your own body, via non-human entities or thanks to strangers.

Finissage ‘The Burnout Society’ and book launch  ‘Jumble ’

SAVE THE DATE: 19.04.24 at 5pm - Finissage ‘THE BURNOUT SOCIETY’ at
Pontarte Gallery Maastricht and the launch of my complemetary publication “Jumble”.

In “Jumble” the four artists tell stories of dealing with the overwhelm, powerlessness and disconnect, using artistic methods to navigate the jumble of information and challenges.
In our attempt to grasp and process everything at once, we end up seeing nothing. Everything blurs and overlaps. But if we direct our focus to one aspect after another we can begin to discern clarity amidst the chaos. "Jumble" invites readers to approach its contents one page at a time, offering a chance to see and, perhaps, to act. Read more here.

Vernissage ‘The Burnout Society’

Join us at the opening of the exhibition 'The Burnout Society’ on Friday the 5th of April, from 5pm Pontarte Gallery Maastricht!

‘The Burnout Society’ is an exhibition that reflects on the demands of Society, and the way it influences new generations, thanks to the perspectives of young artists in the Euregio. In the exhibition, we highlight the unhealthy dynamics of our Society, using the work of the artists exhibited as a starting point to reflect on the infinite sea of possibilities which affects so many of us.

“The contemporary psychic maladies, among them burnout, indicate an excess of positivity, that is not negations so much as the inability to say no; they do not point to not-being-allowed-to do-anything but being able-to-do-everything” (‘The Burnout Society’ by Byung-Chul Han, 2015)

Artist Takeover, Bedtime stories and Book launch at Limestone Books

Starting next week I am doing an artistic takeover of the bookstore Limestone Books in Maastricht!

In the face of a world that is alienating itself from us by its ever-increasing pace, I am looking for more meaningful ways of being in and feeling part of this world. Through my artistic practice, I investigate the way we connect to our bodies and surroundings and developed a methodology to create resonant spaces. Through sensitive and playful attempts at engaging with material, dealing with time, reconnecting with our bodies, and coming together, I will explore new ways of encountering.

During the “Resonanzseiten” takeover, I will use this methodology to transform the book store into a space of resonant connection and launch my new publication “Traversing Glass”. This takeover is an open invitation to slow down, reflect on the quality of our relationships with the world around us, and engage in deeper modes of connection.

OPEN CALL: Workshop Resonoanzraum

The quality of human life cannot be measured simply in terms of resources, options, and moments of happiness. Instead, we must consider our relationship to, or resonance with, the world. Resonance is experienced when the world "speaks back" to us, when we enter into a reciprocal relationship with the world, mutually calling upon and transforming each other.

Over the weekend of February 25-26, we will be exploring and experimenting with resonance. In a group of 4-6 people, we will re-sensitize ourselves to what we may have lost connection with. We will create a space with new rules and new ways of encountering and perceiving what is within and surrounding us. We will be performing for ourselves—watching, moving, eating, smelling, listening, speaking, making, wasting time ...

Contact me if you are interested.

Exhibition “Relief”

I kindly invite you to the exhibition “Relief” in Aachen. In my new series I'm experimenting with different materials to explore the textures and relief effects in my work. I'm fascinated by how these materials interact with each other and the unique effects they create.

This year, I've noticed a shift in my work towards more minimalistic paintings. I find myself drawn to the purity of color and material, using texture rather than color to build tension. My canvases are also becoming larger, which amplifies the physicality of the painting process. I'm not just painting with my hand; it's an experience that involves my entire body. This deeper physical engagement enhances the intuitive flow of my creative process.
